Terri GerrellTerri Gerrell (Southern Yellow Pine Publishing, Tallahasse, FL)

I have a strong accounting background and worked as a hotel controller for Boykin enterprises in a Marriott hotel from 1980-1983. At that time I moved to Florida to finish my education at Florida State University. In 1998 I became involved in the publishing world when I helped my husband self publish his first book. Southern Yellow Pine Publishing (SYP) was established at that time. Over the years it has grown slowly and recently entered the fiction market. I am the author of, “In Search of the Diamond Brooch.”

SYP Publishing promotes southern authors and southern topics in both fiction and non-fiction. We began in this state, as a result, we have many Florida based books and authors. Over the years I have found that supporting and promoting other participants in this business, no matter the role, makes all of us highly visible and more discoverable. With this in mind, I feel becoming a board member of FAPA would offer myself, as well as SYP Publishing, the opportunity to promote us all. My end goal of course is to help make Florida shine in the literary world.”  Terri

VP of Finance

Kay WhitehouseKay Whitehouse (Florida)

My background is business so as a writer I like organization, professionalism and, very importantly, association with other artists. When my coauthor, Ginny Knight-Simon and I decided to write The Diamond Bracelet Club, we didn’t sleep for four days except when exhaustion took over and we fell amongst the papers, pens and coffee mugs.

I am still that excited about creating stories, even a few songs, and along with my coauthor presenting “The Diamond Factor”, a motivational seminar to encourage and inspire women.
I am so honored to represent Florida Authors & Publishers Association as a board member promoting the art of creativity. Helping to create a strong connection between authors, publishers and illustrators to promote honest and open comradery will be my goal.

 VP of Communication

Mike WoodcockMike Woodcock (Professional Illustrator, Orlando, FL)

“Since graduating from the Ringling School of Art & Design with a degree in Illustration, I have lived sunny, warm, Orlando, Florida with my beautiful wife and two English bulldogs. During the day I’m a mild-mannered graphic designer, but outside of that, I play ultimate Frisbee, paint and draw as much as I can and am an award winning children’s book illustrator.

I would like to become a member of the FAPA Board of Directors to help reach out and expand the organization as well spread the wealth of knowledge that is contained within. Each member has their own formula for success and is more than willing to share that knowledge so the next person can adopt and mold that for what they’re trying to do. I would like to help spread the word about all of the great conferences and speakers that FAPA puts together as well as reach out to people that aren’t aware that this organization is here for them.”  Mike

VP of Communication

Ginger Marks (Author & CEO DocUmeant Publishing & Designs, Clearwater, FL)

Descending from a long line of authors and speakers, it was no surprise to her family when Ginger Marks decided to write her first book in 2006. After self-publishing her first book, Presentational Skills for the Next Generation, Marks realized that the results of her efforts were less than desired because she chosen the wrong printing company. It was at this time, and for this reason, that she decided to offer new authors the assistance and direction to help them avoid the pitfalls of bad publishing choices. Thus DocUmeant Publishing was born.

On her journey as an author, internationally recognized digital designer, and publisher Mrs. Marks has been named Executive of the Year in Covington Who’s Who; her design firm, DocUmeant Designs is listed as the Highest Rated firm over 20,000 nationally listed Designers, Developers & Marketing Professionals; and her publishing company, DocUmeant Publishing, is the proud recipient of the New York Award in the Publishing Consultants & Services category which was presented to her by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA) in 2012 and again in 2016 in both Clearwater & NYC by the respective cities.

Marks, has thirty-plus years’ experience in the corporate arena, having owned & managed a multimillion dollar surgical facility. Her experience in business management and marketing doesn’t come from a text-book, but from real world experience, the kind of experience you need behind you when you are budgeting and marketing your books.

Marks states, “Being named to the board of the Florida Authors and Publishers Association is both an honor and a privilege. As VP of Communications, I look forward to interacting with the members and providing them with the content that they need to make their publishing journey a successful and profitable one.”
